To better accommodate our growing specialties of dermatology and gastroenterology, we have opened an office suite at our Lake Nona office dedicated to these services.
The third floor of the building has always been slated for expansion of our services and we were able to see those plans completed earlier this month.
The suite includes a surgical suite for Mohs surgery. Mohs surgery is the most effective treatment available for both basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma. It has the lowest recurrence rates, highest cure rates and best cosmetic results of any skin cancer treatment.
Since sun and UV exposure are the greatest risk factors for these cancers, it’s not surprising that 80 percent of these cancer cases occur on the face and neck areas, places that most people want to avoid scarring. With Mohs surgery, only the affected skin is removed. This preserves the greatest amount of healthy skin and provides a better cosmetic outcome. It is an outpatient procedure that is performed under local anesthesia. Patients leave that day knowing they are cancer free.
While any board-certified dermatologist may perform Mohs surgery, only members of the American College of Mohs Surgery have completed an extensive fellowship with at least one full year of hands-on training in Mohs surgery after completing their residency. Dr. Weinstein did his fellowship training at Good Samaritan Trihealth in Cincinnati.
“With any cancer, patients want and deserve the most effective treatment,” Dr. Weinstein says. “By providing Mohs surgery, our level of cancer care aligns with the expectations of our patients when they come to Medical City.”
We look forward to caring for patients in our new space!
