UCF Health has added gastroenterology to its spectrum of care.

Dr. Le-Chu Su has joined the College of Medicine faculty practice and will provide comprehensive care to patients with inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative bowel disease), celiac disease, microscopic colitis and malabsorption disorders.  Dr. Su has been named one of the best gastroenterologists in the U.S. since 2007. Before joining UCF Health, she worked at the Cleveland Clinic specialized in these areas. In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Su will serve as associate professor of gastroenterology at the medical school.

“I see so much opportunity at UCF and UCF Health,” Dr. Su said. “Being able to work with a community of physicians and scientists who are passionate about excellence in patient care and health research inspires me to continue to challenge myself and to provide the most impact within my field.”

Dr. Su earned her medical doctorate from Case Western Reserve University and is board-certified in gastroenterology, internal medicine and nutrition. She also earned a Ph.D. in nutrition from Mayo Clinic and University of Minnesota. She is a diplomate in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine, and a diplomate in Physician Nutrition Specialist through the National Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists.

Before becoming a physician was even on her radar, she was interested in researching the role of nutrition in disease and disease prevention.  After obtaining her Ph.D. in nutrition, she knew there was much more going on within the human body and disease processes, so she decided to continue her education to become a gastroenterologist with the goal of delivering the best care to patients.

“I love my job,” Dr. Su said. “I love a challenge, and every patient is different. Solving the challenge of each patient and making them well again is the greatest reward.”

Dr. Su will be treating patients at both UCF Health locations — East Orlando near the main UCF campus and at the practice’s newest clinic in Medical City.

UCF Health offers primary care and multiple specialties under one roof, and treats patients age 16 and up. All physicians are also faculty at the medical school. Most major insurance plans are accepted. For appointments, call UCF Health at 407-266-DOCS (3627) or visit www.UCFHealth.com.
