Biography

Dr. Hiram Maldonado-Rivera is board-certified in Endocrinology and Internal Medicine and specializes in caring for patients with endocrine system disorders, including diabetes and diseases of the thyroid, adrenal and pituitary glands. He is eager to help patients with metabolic conditions while also being an advocate for the best care to improve overall wellness. He is also interested in thyroid nodules, thyroid imaging and fine-needle aspiration for accurate diagnosis and management

Education

Dr. Maldonado-Rivera graduated with honors with a Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Sciences in Biology, Human Focus from the University of Puerto Rico at Bayamón. He received his M.D. degree at Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. He did his medical internship at Manatí Medical Center at Manatí, PR where he was named medical intern of the year. He did his internal medicine residency atHospital Damas in Ponce, Puerto Rico and his endocrinology fellowship at Larkin Community Hospital in Miami, where he served as chief fellow.

Background

Before coming to UCF, Dr. Maldonado-Rivera cared for patients at Miami Endocrine Associates while also serving as part of the teaching staff of the Larkin Community Hospital Endocrinology & Metabolism Fellowship. He also served as an adjunct faculty for Nova Southeastern University College of Pharmacy, Puerto Rico Campus in San Juan, PR. He is a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and the Endocrine Society where he has presented in the conferences of both societies.
