Gynecological Services We Offer
General Gynecology Exams
Regular gynecology exams are critical for ensuring optimal health in women. Also called an annual exam, regular gynecology exams are routine check-ups that assess the woman’s reproductive organs.
This routine check-up includes a pelvic exam, a breast exam, a urine sample and a pap smear to check for abnormal cells, growths, or conditions. This simple procedure is essential for detecting precancerous or cancerous cells, infections, or sexually transmitted diseases (STD).
Minimally-Invasive Gynecologic Surgery
The purpose of minimally-invasive gynecologic surgery is to assess and treat any abnormal growths, lumps or tumors, menorrhagia (heavy uterine bleeding), metrorrhagia (abnormal uterine bleeding), abnormal pelvic pain, and conditions like endometriosis or ovarian cysts/masses.
Minimally-invasive gynecologic surgery options include colposcopies and biopsies of the cervix, laparoscopies, hysteroscopies and myomectomies.
Pelvic surgery involves the treatment of conditions related to the pelvis, such as pelvic floor disorders, urinary urgency and incontinence, and prolapse of the vagina, bladder or uterus.
As with all of our gynecology services, the specific procedure and technique used in pelvic surgery will depend on the cause and severity of the condition.
General Tests and Screenings
We perform general tests and screenings, including STD tests, STI (sexually transmitted infection) tests, pregnancy tests and HPV (human papillomavirus) screenings.
Completing regular tests and screenings can ensure early detection and treatment of conditions, infections or viruses before they progress and lead to further complications.
Medications and Prescriptions
Contraceptive medication and prescription treatments (birth control pills) can be obtained through our gynecology health services. We provide education in proper contraceptive use, the risk of improper contraceptive use and the effectiveness of medications to prevent pregnancy or regulate hormones or menstrual periods.
Gynecological Conditions We Treat
Excessive or irregular bleeding from the uterus is considered abnormal. Abnormal bleeding can occur at any time during a regular menstrual cycle, even during a period. Sometimes indicative of hormonal imbalances, pregnancy, fibroids, or other conditions, abnormal bleeding should be brought to our Orlando OB-GYN specialist’s attention.
Some pain and cramping during a period is normal, but if period pain debilitates you from getting out of bed, going to school or work, you should consult our Orlando gynecologist. We can provide you with treatment solutions to assist you in making your period more manageable.
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is an infection in a woman’s reproductive system. Typically caused by the progression of sexually transmitted infections (STI), PID can be treated with antibiotics and should be evaluated by an OB-GYN specialist as soon as possible to prevent subsequent complications.
Urinary Urgency and Incontinence
Urinary urgency and incontinence is characterized as an inability to control the bladder. This condition can cause a person to leak urine or have a strong urge to urinate when going about daily activities. Many women who experience this problem are embarrassed to see a doctor, but we assure you that this is a common condition.
Vaginal, Bladder, and Uterine Prolapse
Women can experience prolapse of the vagina, bladder or uterus at any age. These conditions occur when the pelvic muscles no longer support the specific pelvic organ and the organ protrudes from the vagina. This condition may elicit a pulling sensation in the pelvis, vaginal bleeding or pain during sexual intercourse.
Endometriosis is a disorder that occurs when the tissue that lines the inside of the uterus grows abnormally on the outside of the uterus. Intense pain during a menstrual period and excessive bleeding can be indicative of endometriosis. This condition can lead to infertility and requires urgent attention.
Fibroids are noncancerous lumps that grow in the muscle wall of the uterus. A woman experiencing these benign growths may notice abdominal pain and severe period pain. There are different types of fibroids that vary in size, and we may suggest a minimally-invasive procedure or treatment to remove these lumps.
Abnormal Uterine Bleeding
Abnormal uterine bleeding is irregular bleeding at any time during the menstruation cycle. While some minor bleeding irregularity is normal, persistent abnormal bleeding can be caused by a number of conditions. We will complete an assessment and may recommend a medication depending on the specific cause of bleeding.
Ovarian cysts or masses are fluid-filled sacs that grow in or on an ovary. These growths are very common in women and often don’t show signs or symptoms. Most ovarian cysts or masses are benign and harmless, but some can be malignant. Ovarian cysts are typically found during regular pelvic examinations.
Pelvic pain is felt in the lower abdomen and often occurs during the menstrual period and ovulation. Pelvic pain can also be a sign of a urinary tract infection (UTI), an STI or PID. We advise women who experience sharp or severe pelvic pain to see our OB-GYN specialist in Orlando.
Vaginal and Bladder Infections
Vaginal (bacterial) infections and bladder infections are common occurrences in women. Bladder infections, known as urinary tract infections (UTI), can be present anywhere in the urinary system (in the kidneys, bladder, or urethra). Vaginal infections occur when there’s an overgrowth of bacteria in the vagina. Both infections can be treated with a simple antifungal medication once you visit either of our offices in Lake Nona or East Orlando.
